A good standard, works for everything, pair of slacks has been hard to come by for me. Often I find the cuts to be too narrow, too low rise, or if they are a higher rise, they have a comically wide leg. I wanted something traditional, well made, and easy to wear.
I found exactly that with the Patrick James Garbadine Flat-Front Slacks — so much so that I really enjoy wearing these out and about.

Materials
These are only lined in the top front half of the pants, and are otherwise thin, breathable, and unlined. On the outside they are 100% Super 120’s wool, which is very smooth and thin. They are made in Canada, and come with an unfinished hem.
I had a cuffed hem added to these, in part because of how light the slacks are on their own, I wanted a touch of weight to help them drop over my shoes when I stand up.

The materials, and construction all leave nothing to complain about and feel very nice in hand.
Wear
When I first put these on, I thought there were fully unlined. That’s both because of how smooth the Super 120s is on its own, and how very thin the small lining is on the thighs. Yet, even with the lining, these breathe really well and are not a pair of pants to turn to when you want to stay warm. These are a very light pant, while keeping a smooth face for a clean appearance.
They also have a really nice rise, and leg shape. A classic cut, without being a full cut. Perhaps I’ll label this one modern-classic.

The wool on these does give a false sense that there’s ‘stretch’ built into the pants, but these are 100% wool. The stretch is simply the fabric moving. And the fabric does have a nice bit of give, and I never felt like the pants were holding me back on my range of motion in any way. That alone makes these pants a lot more comfortable than most slacks.
I would be quite happy with the pockets were bigger, but when you wear a pair of slacks with this type of material, your pants pockets are best kept as empty as possible — that’s what the sport coat is for.
I wore these first on a rather warm spring day, and I noticed two things right off the bat:
- I felt like I looked really good all day.
- The pants wore nicely breezy, and I never overheated when walking outside.
Even working from home most of the day, the pants have remained quite comfortable, and led to a lot of questions from my kids about why I am so dressed up.
A medium gray wool slacks is about as classic as you can get, and pairs well with most things you’d wear into an office, without the darkness of navy. They also pair exceptionally well with a navy blazer.
Most wool slacks are not something you’d find that you are good with being in all day. However, good wool slacks — like this — are something you are more than happy to be wearing all day. That’s certainly been the case in my testing.
They look sharp, are lightweight, and easy to wear.
Overall

These are fantastic pants, and offer a far better value for money than I expected. At just under $200, these feel like a much more expensive pair of pants. They are comfortable, they looks fantastic, and are very easy to wear.
The cut is spot on for me. I cannot recommend these highly enough.
