That’s it. Now your iPhone and your Watch will remain silent whenever a notification arrives. Your Watch will tap your wrist, but no one will be aware. The Watch’s display won’t even light up unless you raise your arm, so you needn’t worry about bothering anyone, yet you never miss a notification.

You can see that on my MacBook Air, this folder contains a bunch of “.bts” files—which are tiny “aliases” to the original files stored elsewhere.
Now here’s what’s great—If I need an installer locally, I just double-click it, and it downloads in place! And when I’m finished with installer, I simply delete it in the Finder, and shortly thereafter I’ll see its “.bts” alias re-appear.

This one’s a luxury, but it’s also so great. If you checked out the photos of Sean, Cameron, and/or Jeff’s offices you may have noticed that there were multiple “stations”. They’re offices have more than one physical place to do work.
I have two such stations: standing and sitting. I don’t have an adjustable desk any longer, but I’ve found having two stations is actually a boon.
I have a lot of microphones kicking around the house — most stemming from my many attempts at podcasting. I have a Rode Podcaster with stand, shock mount, pop filter; a Blue Yeti; and various other crappy mics — not to mention those built into headphones and bluetooth headsets. There’s a lot going on, but I clearly needed another microphone.

I’ve tried Authy, and I’ve tried 1Password for two factor authentication. Authy is meh. 1Password is really nice, but the two factor codes are so buried it’s a pain in the ass to get to them.
And then there’s Lockdown and its simplicity is awesome. On the main screen I can see all the codes: boom. If I drill down I can see the current code AND the next code. That last bit is really the killer feature for me. It also works on the Apple Watch.
Home screen app for me. Well done.

What I don’t have yet, though, is a replacement micro-blogging system. I’m going to let that just be an unmet need for now. Perhaps it’s the grain of sand that irritates me into generating a pearl. And perhaps not.
Exactly the reason I started a private Slack with just fellow nerds. It’s really quiet in there, like ~200 messages a week, and I’ve been vigilant to protect that. I don’t want a lot of noise, I just want a group of people interesting in similar things, which I can bring an idea/question/complaint to and get enjoyable responses. And if you’ve noticed I mostly just use Twitter for self-promotion these days.
It’s too annoying to do anything more.

Nice piece from Matt on what I suspect will be true for a great many people. HOWEVER, Matt has only had the device for a few days, and even with me going over 8 days with the Watch, I think it is far too early for either of us to be drawing these kinds of conclusions yet.
This is a premature post if you ask me.
What seems like eons ago I switched from Instapaper to Safari Reading List as my primary means of saving links to read them later. There were two impetuses for switching: the first was that Instapaper had just been sold; and the second was that with Safari Reading List I could tap and hold links almost anywhere in iOS and save a link for later. Good stuff.
Really interesting thoughts on the MacBook, especially his take on the keyboard. I can’t wait to get mine.
Nice rundown of what you have out there right now. But I’ll remind you that one does not buy the new MacBook to plug shit into it. If that is your plan, get a different computer. I, for one, am looking forward to not having shit plugged into my laptop.

When I started at MartianCraft I did so figuring that working from home wouldn’t be a big shift for me. Most of the time I worked one day a week from home already and I felt confident it would be similar. As it turns out — working from home full-time has a lot of little quirks I didn’t know about.

I can let my eyes and hands be free to do other things, yet still yield value from the digital world. This, in my opinion, will be the area where wrist-worn computers of all shapes, types, and sizes, will compete and move computing another step forward.
I quipped about this on Twitter earlier today, but wanted to mention it here as well: there’s an asinine amount of Apple Watch posts going around, ranging from X minutes with the Apple Watch, to three days with the Apple Watch.
I haven’t read most, and probably never will — I don’t think you should either. Outside of the handful of journalists which received the Apple Watch before the launch, there isn’t much stock to be put into what people are saying.
My new favorite app. The default Belkin WeMo app is shit, and really slow. QuickSwitch isn’t just a watch app, it’s a far better WeMo controller (works with just the WeMo switches for now). Really great work.
Matt Henderson goes over the woes of Face management in Photos.app. I’ll admit that the feature is very cumbersome — overly cumbersome actually.

The same discriminatory thinking lies behind the continuing gender gap in pay and why there are still so few women in office in the West. The root of this prejudice lies deep in our histories, but its impact is felt every day. It is not women and girls alone who suffer. It damages all of us. The evidence shows that investing in women and girls delivers major benefits for society. An educated woman has healthier children. She is more likely to send them to school. She earns more and invests what she earns in her family.
Google’s long rumored wireless network has been announced. The most interesting part is the pricing. I would really love to see this succeed to pressure the likes of Verizon and AT&T on plan pricing and international data rates.
